Bed Bugs can hitch a ride from virtually any where, here is how you can prevent them from taking up residency in your home. When you go to a hotel keep your luggage off of the floor and away from the wall and bed. Bring your own blanket and pillow cases. Upon checkout, remove your pillow case and blanket and put them in a sealed plastic bag. Take a shower right before you leave the room. Do not bring luggage into your home. Wash everything including the clothes you are wearing and then take a shower. Tie a plastic bag around your suitcase and store it in the garage or shed and then vacuum your vehicle.
Bed Bugs can be carried to school on jackets, book bags and clothing. Once the infected item is placed into the locker the bed bug can move from locker to locker in search for food and a more stable habitat. You can encourage your children to not share clothing, keep a clutter free locker and place bags around stored items.
The concern with hospitals is the personal storage closets by the bed. Most hospital rooms have a closet where you can store personal items while you stay. Bed bugs live in jackets, pants and anything that can provide a dark hiding spot. Treat hospital stays as you would hotel stays.
